- Poole, Purbeck & Wimborne - Wide Digital Ltd (there was one other applicant)
- Warminster, Devizes & Trowbridge - West Wiltshire Digital Radio CIC (sole applicant)
The Warminster, Devizes & Trowbridge licence had been awarded in 2022 but was subsequently revoked because the operator did not feel it could launch within the statutory deadline. That operator was the sole applicant on this occasion. The regulator states that it is unlikely this area would be advertised a third time if the statutory deadline is not met this time.

In Luxembourg, the government has advertised the operation of a national multiplex that will broadcast on Block 7D. The advertisement specifies that a maximum of 12 audio services may be broadcast, and that the operator must bring into service the Hosingen, Dudelange and Napolëonsgaard transmission sites within six months of the licence being awarded. Within 18 months, coverage should be expanded to include the other transmission sites that have been co-ordinated for this multiplex with neighbouring countries. The operator's licence will last for 10 years and the closing date for applications is October 11th 2024.

The UK regulator has revoked the "small-scale" licence for Wakefield, Castleford & Dewsbury that had been awarded to Mid Yorkshire DAB Ltd. The operator had said it would not be able to meet the statutory launch deadline due to issues with the supply of equipment. Mid Yorkshire DAB expressed an interest in re-applying for the licence but opined that readvertising the area without Dewsbury would be beneficial. The regulator has stated that it intends to readvertise the licence but has invited other opinions on both the timing of the readvertisement and on the inclusion of Dewssbury.

The operator had informed Ofcom that it had decided not to proceed to launch, citing concerns about the economic viability of the proposed multiplex. The regulator has announced that it would consider whether to re-advertise the area, should any expressions of interest be received and has invited prospective applicants to express views on the most appropriate area to be covered by any future advertisement.

In Switzerland, the public-service broadcaster SRG/SSR has announced that it will cease broadcasting its services on FM (Band II) on December 31st 2024. According to its announcement, FM now accounts for less than 10% of all listening. The Swiss highways agency ASTRA will equip all tunnels in the national road network for DAB+ by the year's end and will end its FM retransmissions.

In Austria, two complete layers of new regionalised coverage have been brought into service. Layer 3 was advertised as a national platform but with the possibility of regionalisation. Both layers appear to be structured similarly, with the exception of the capital, where there are two Layer 2 ensembles with overlapping coverage - an existing ensemble nominally for Vienna and another new ensemble for Niederösterreich, and a new Layer 3 ensemble which appears to be named for Wien, Niederösterreich and Burgenland. Some of the new ensembles are operating as MFNs, leaving open the possibility of further regionalisation in the future. For example, the layers for Salzburg and Oberösterreich have different frequencies in each Land.

In Slovenia, the regulator has advertised two national layers of coverage, designated R4 and R5. The notional frequencies for the two networks are Blocks 5A and 5B respectively but these are subject to international co-ordination. The advertisement leaves open the possibility of alternative frequencies being allocated, and the list of transmission sites that accompanies the advertisement foresees the use of Blocks 6C and 5A for R4 and 6D and 5B for R5.

The UK regulator has revoked the "small-scale" licence for Yorkshire Coast that had been awarded to East Coast Digital Radio CIC. The operator had informed the regulator that it no longer intends to launch the service, saying it believes the project is no longer financially viable, with the size of the licensed area requiring multiple transmission sites and what it perceives to be a change in the likely level of demand. Ofcom may consider re-advertising the area should it receive expressions of interest, but notes that ECDR was the sole applicant. Comments regarding the size of the area to be re-advertised as well as on the timing.

On the centenary of radio broadcasting in Spain, the national public-service broadcaster RNE has begun using DAB+.
In Madrid, the ensemble MF1 has been relabelled MF1 MAD and now carries DAB+ versions of the services Radio 1 and Radio 5. The "original-flavour" DAB versions of those services remain, but running at reduced bitrates to accomodate the newcomers.
In Barcelona, an ensemble MF1 CAT carries DAB+ versions of Radio 1 and 5. The SIds of this ensemble's "original-flavour" versions of those services have changed. They also are now running at reduced bitrates.
A packet data service STATION LOGOS has popped up on each ensemble.
In two other cities (at least), a third version of MF1 has popped up. MF1 Test, on Block 9A in Seville and 9C in Murcia carries just three services currently - Radio 3 DAB+, Radio 5 DAB+ and RNE DAB+ - along with the packet data service STATION LOGOS.
The ensembles MF2 and FU-E are currently unchanged.

In Spain, the national public-service broadcaster RNE is to begin using DAB+ and effectively relaunch Digital Audio Broadcasting in Spain. The move, announced on the broadcaster's X (formerly Twitter) feed, will be the subject of an online presentation at 12:00 CET February 13th 2024 on RTVEplay. RNE is currently confined to three, notionally national, ensembles but currently confined to Madrid and Barcelona and using "original-flavour" DAB. A number of independent operators are already broadcasting in DAB+ in various towns and cities around the country.

The UK regulator has announced that Round Six of the "small-scale" licence areas will be advertised in April 2024. Included in the advertisement will be four areas previously awarded but subsequently revoked: Swansea, Warminster, Devizes & Trowbridge, Wetherby (this time without Harrogate) and Wigan. The other coverage areas may also differ from those previously advertised.

The BBC has announced that it plans to launch extensions to its existing services BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3. The new extensions will use DAB+, and will use the BBC's existing capacity, likely meaning the appearance of DAB+ on BBC National DAB. It also plans to extend the broadcasting hours of BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra. The BBC will conduct a Public Interest Test, likely lasting until the end of 2024, with the UK regulator Ofcom saying it will conduct its own competition assessment, once the BBC's own process is complete. Ofcom has up to six months to complete that review, meaning any launch is not likely before mid-2025. Ofcom recently approved a proposal to extend the hours of BBC Radio Cymru 2 and to make it a UK public service in its own right.

The UK regulator has revoked the licence awarded to the operator of the small-scale ensemble for Swansea. Swansea DAB Ltd had requested that the award be withdrawn, primarily on the basis that it now considered the transmission site it originally proposed was no longer feasible and would not be able to produce an alternative technical plan within the legislative deadline. The operator expressed an interest in re-applying for the licence should it be re-advertised. Ofcom has stated that it intends to re-advertise the area in Round Six.

With the exception of one service, none of the Long Service Labels contains more than eight characters. The combination of Country ID and Extended Country Code used by this ensemble would normally signify a French ensemble. The Country IDs used for the services on this ensemble would normally signify French services and one Swiss service. The DLS of most of the services appeared to be live and immediately relevant. The coverage of this ensemble appears to reach only certain parts of Santa Cruz. At the time of the observation, two services appeared to be running without audio streams.

The previous operator went into Voluntary Liquidation and the licence and broadcast assets were transferred to Winchester DAB Ltd. The new operator was unable to negotiate the continued use of Crabwood Farm and transmissions ceased in November 2023.
Ofcom has invited comments on the proposal and says it is minded to approve the request. The consultation closes on January 30th 2024.
