Broadcasting in the UK uses original-flavour DAB. While it was proposed that some new multiplexes would use DAB+ for downloadable podcasts, it is likely to be some time before mainstream broadcasting is able to switch to DAB+ because of the large number of original-flavour receivers already in use. Wohnort recommends, however, that you should consider buying a receiver that is DAB+ capable if you are likely to want to take it out of the country with you. Such a receiver should also be more future-proof than one which only receives DAB.

Operator: Ofcom awarded the second national commercial DAB licence to 4 Digital Group Limited, a consortium of Channel 4 Radio, Sky News Radio, Emap Digital Radio, UTV Radio (GB), The Carphone Warehouse Group and UBC Media Group. However, the multiplex never made it to air and the licence was formally handed back to Ofcom on January 30th 2009. Ofcom has yet to make an announcement about the future use of the capacity on the multiplex.
