At last - a radio you can buy in the UK and use in France!

image of receiver

What's this? All three members of the DAB radio family in one box? A DAB radio you can buy in the UK and use anywhere? (Band III only) The Revo Mondo is described by Revo as "the plug-and-play choice" for DAB, DAB+ and DMB-A (aka DMB Radio) radio reception. That means you can use it pretty much anywhere that uses the Eureka 147 system, providing the signals are transmitted in Band III. A radio that you can use not only in the UK, but also in France, and in Switzerland... or in Malta, or in Australia. How perfectly sensible! It doesn't have a speaker of its own - it's intended to be added to an existing system. It used to be that we called them "tuners", but these small devices are being marketed as digital radio adaptors... perhaps to appeal to people who already have tuners? There are phono sockets on the rear for connection to an existing hi-fi or radio setup. It also has a 3.5mm jack for headphone listening, but the unit requires AC mains for its 240v power supply. Reception is achieved through a captive telescopic antenna and the unit ships with a compact remote control. Note that there are Wifi-only versions of the Mondo already in the shops, plus some other versions knocking around that receive DAB+ but not DMB-A. This version goes on sale in the UK in mid-March, but is available for pre-order now from Revo's online shop.

Monaco

Monaco

site DMB symbol France has chosen the DMB-A subset of the DAB family for digital radio and the process of licensing multiplexes in key French markets is underway. It will be marketed as Radio Numérique Terrestre (RNT). It is inconceivable that Monaco would adopt a system other than the one operated in France. Wohnort recommends that you buy a receiver that is DMB capable if you intend to use it in Monaco or France. Note that DMB-A differs from the DMB in use in Korea. A standard Korean DMB receiver will most likely not receive the forthcoming DMB-A transmissions in France. If you expect to use it in other countries as well you should ensure that it will also receive DAB+.
