The LPR Hessen has re-advertised the remaining capacity on the ensemble. The ensemble is expected to begin broadcasting in the first quarter or 2012 and will be transmitted initially from Frankfurt Fernmeldeturm (5 kW) and Großer Feldburg/Taunus (5 kW) with the possibility of adding Wiesbaden/Mainz Kastell (10 kW). Although not stated, the latter may depend upon the uptake of capacity. Services will be broadcast in DAB+ with a maximum of 72 CUs being available per service. Unusually, the LPR Hessen has announced that there is no closing date, only a starting date, which is December 19th. First come, first served?
The Hessische Landesanstalt für privaten Rundfunk und neue Medien (LPR Hessen) has awarded capacity on the forthcoming ensemble for the Rhein-Main area to each of the eight applicants:
- Radio/Tele FFH GmbH & Co. Betriebs-KG, Bad Vilbel, ("Hit Radio FFH")
- Radio/Tele FFH GmbH & Co. Betriebs-KG, Bad Vilbel ("FFH-Seasons")
- Frankfurt Business Radio GmbH & Co. Betriebs KG, Frankfurt am Main ("ENERGY Rhein-Main")
- MainHessen Medien GmbH, Heusenstamm ("Radio Fortuna")
- Internationale Christliche Rundfunkgemeinschaft e.V., Immenstadt ("Radio Horeb")
- RADIO BOB GmbH & Co. KG, Kassel ("Radio BOB!")
- Die Neue Welle Rundfunk-Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG, Nürnberg ("Absolut relax")
- MEDIA BROADCAST GmbH, Bonn (Datacast-Plattform)
- RadyoTürk
- Radio Teddy
The aim is for the new regional ensemble to match the initial coverage on Block 5A of the forthcoming national multiplex in the Rhein-Main-Gebiet of Hessen and neighbouring Rheinland-Pfalz and to be ready for a simultaneous launch on August 1st 2011. In its original advertisement, the LPR Hessen said it would offer remaining capacity to public-service broadcasters. The multiplex operator will be the existing operator Hessen Digital Radio. An interesting condition attached to the advertisement was that the transmission network would not be rolled out until 87% of the capacity has been allocated.
